Swords and shields at the ready: Bayeux Tapestry attracts crowds at British Museum after historic UK return

  • Crowds are queuing up to see the Bayeux Tapestry, which is being displayed at the British Museum for the first time, with some visitors dressed in medieval attire.
  • The 70-metre long artefact has returned to the UK for the first time in almost 1,000 years on loan until September 2027.
  • Special conservation and security measures have been put in place to safeguard the artefact throughout its display in London.
  • Exhibition curator Michael Lewis said: “I think people will be talking about this for generations and generations, that they were there in London to see the Bayeux Tapestry when it came to this country, and hopefully they’ll be inspired to go to Bayeux as well.”
  • Tickets for the landmark exhibition are currently sold out until the next release on 21 October.
