Kota Kinabalu: A 55-year-old man, who has a conviction record of taking syabu, was jailed eight years jail for committing similar offence.

Jinin Kassim pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Amir Shah Amir Hassan to taking syabu and amphetamine at 8.20pm on Oct 9, 2023 in Papar.

The charge against Jinin also stated that he had a previous conviction under Section 39C(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Jinin was charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act and punishable under Section 39C(2) of the same Act, which carries a jail term of between seven years and 13 years and whipping not less than three times, on conviction.

Jinin, who was not represented, requested a lenient sentence as he was old.

The prosecution applied an adequate sentence.
