SHAH ALAM – The Gratitude Run initiative led by Muar Member of Parliament Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman successfully raised RM54,692 on its first day.
In a video shared on his Facebook page, Syed Saddiq expressed his appreciation to all donors and supporters who contributed throughout the journey.
He said the amount was collected through contributions from members of the public who followed and supported the Gratitude Run.
“RM54,692. That is the amount we managed to collect on the first day of the Muar Gratitude Run, alhamdulillah. Thank you so much to everyone who contributed and supported this journey,” he said in the video shared on his social media.
Syed Saddiq said the first day’s journey began from Putrajaya towards Salak Tinggi before continuing to Labu.
He added that he and his team took a brief break to perform Maghrib prayers before continuing the run towards the final destination for the first day.
Syed Saddiq launched the Gratitude Run, covering approximately 170 kilometres from the grounds of the Palace of Justice in Precinct 3, Putrajaya, to Muar, Johor.
The four-day run was organised as a gesture of gratitude after his lengthy legal battle to clear his name and restore his reputation.
The initiative also carries a charitable objective, with a fundraising target of RM200,000 to assist residents in the Muar parliamentary constituency.
Syed Saddiq admitted he was surprised by the overwhelming response along the route, with members of the public waiting by the roadside to show their support and offer words of encouragement.
He said the support began from Putrajaya to Salak Tinggi, before receiving an even warmer reception upon arriving in Labu despite it being late at night.
“I may be the one running, but this journey is actually powered by all of you.
“Thank you Putrajaya, thank you Salak Tinggi and thank you Labu,” he said.
He also called on the public to continue supporting the initiative to help achieve the fundraising target, which will be channelled towards food bank programmes and the provision of educational packages for residents in the Muar parliamentary constituency.
Members of the public can continue contributing through the website lariankesyukuranmuar.com to help achieve the fundraising goal.
