In an effort to maintain local customs, Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar has called on locals to take action against tourists flaunting bikinis and other inappropriate attire at beaches and public places.

His plea comes after a photo of two scantily clad foreign tourists at Pulau Kekabu beach went viral.

Samsuri addressed the matter during a visit to Marang to assess the damage from a recent storm.

Samsuri emphasized that rules are rules, even during natural disasters.

He called on everyone—not just authorities—to help maintain these regulations.

“Everyone has a role to play,” he said.

“Not just the authorities and the State Government. Local residents can also kindly remind tourists if they see anyone breaking the rules or doing something amiss.”

He added that this responsibility includes resort operators, boat operators, government officials, and the general public.

However, Samsuri stressed that any reminders should be given politely.

If done kindly, tourists who may not be aware of the state’s dress code will likely understand and follow the rules.
