Kuala Lumpur: Sipitang Member of Parliament Datuk Matbali Musah (pic) has urged the Government to table regular progress reports on the Sabah Pan Borneo Highway project in Parliament to ensure transparent monitoring of its actual status.
Debating the Auditor-General’s Report 2/2026 in the Dewan Rakyat on Wednesday, he called for a structured mechanism detailing timelines, targets per package, land acquisition status, compensation, variation orders, contracts, and physical progress.
Matbali pointed out that the Auditor-General’s Report highlighted multiple weaknesses in the project's planning and implementation, noting it remains unfinished as of March 31 despite shifting under the Works Ministry in September 2019.
He questioned how much longer Sabahans must wait for the crucial arterial network to be completed, stressing its vital role in the state's connectivity and economic development.
Highlighting local repercussions, Matbali said the unfinished Sindumin-Melalia-Beaufort stretch directly impacts Sipitang, which serves as a major gateway connecting Sabah to Sarawak, Brunei Darussalam, and Kalimantan, Indonesia.
