Taduran retains IBF minimumweight belt, stops Perez in 7th

MANILA, Philippines — Pedro Taduran retained his International Boxing Federation (IBF) minimumweight belt after scoring a seventh-round stoppage of Gustavo Perez Alvarez at the Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula, California Saturday in Manila.

The Filipino pug unleashed a midsection blow that sent the Mexican to the canvas, ending the fight at the 1:34 mark of the seventh round.

Taduran also dropped Alvarez three times before the knockout blow, putting the latter down twice in the fourth round and once in the sixth.

Taduran, 29, made his third successful defense of his belt to improve his record to 20-4-1 with 14 knockouts.

Alvarez, 27, dropped to 16-2 with 5 knockouts.
