TAG Heuer has unveiled a dramatic new chapter in the life of its most recognisable icon with the launch of the new Monaco Chronograph. The limited-edition model designed to capture the adrenaline and spectacle of Formula 1® night racing. Bold, luminous and unapologetically modern, this latest iteration propels the Monaco into a contemporary design space without compromising the rebellious spirit that made it famous.

First introduced in 1969, the Monaco broke the rules of traditional watchmaking with its radical square case, left-mounted crown and vivid blue dial. Its cultural status was cemented in 1971 when Steve McQueen wore it in the film Le Mans, a moment that transformed the Monaco into a symbol of motorsport glamour and cinematic cool.

Over the years, TAG Heuer has continually reinterpreted the model, ensuring its sharp attitude remains intact while evolving with new materials and technical refinements.

Let It Glow

The new Monaco Chronograph takes this evolution into the glowing world of after-dark racing. Crafted in lightweight yet robust black DLC-coated titanium, the 39mm case offers a stealthy modern presence. The dial, fully skeletonised, transitions through a mesmerising gradient from violet to deep blue — a visual homage to the descent from dusk into night on illuminated racing circuits.

As evening turns into darkness, the watch reveals its true identity. Super-LumiNova® accents animate the architecture in a tri-colour display: blue highlights the chronograph functions, turquoise energises the hands, and green ensures precise time reading. Purple and blue SLN elements glow across the minute track and dial perimeter, creating layered depth reminiscent of neon reflections on slick asphalt. An iridescent sapphire caseback, shifting from blue to violet, extends the palette across the entire design.

At the heart of the watch beats TAG Heuer’s in-house Calibre TH20-00, an automatic movement engineered for performance and reliability. Visible through both the skeletonised dial and sapphire back, it reinforces the Monaco’s emphasis on mechanical openness and modern horological transparency. A strap combining black rubber with embossed calfskin, finished with purple stitching, completes the look.

Limited to just 600 individually numbered pieces, this Monaco Chronograph is presented in special packaging echoing the watch’s vivid colour story. It stands not only as a continuation of the Monaco legacy but as a bold redefinition — a timepiece that captures the glow, speed and theatre of racing when the lights go down.
