Raghad Kurdi Taib, the wife of former Sarawak governor Abdul Taib Mahmud, has recently expressed her concerns about the quality of care and medical guidance provided at the hospital where her husband was receiving treatment in Kuching.

In a statement, Raghad addressed and denied allegations made in a police report that she had hastily removed Taib from the Normah Medical Specialist Centre against medical advice. Raghad clarified that the doctor responsible for Taib's care, Dr Tan Sian Kong, had approved his discharge on February 3 after being informed about Taib's upcoming appointment at the Cardiac Vascular Sentral Kuala Lumpur (CVSKL).

She emphasized that the decision to bring Taib home was made with informed consent and in consideration of his best interests, as endorsed by Dr Tan's referral letter to CVSKL. In response to claims that she removed Taib's medications without informing hospital staff, Raghad stated that all necessary discharge procedures were followed, and she had sought assistance from hospital staff to remove medical devices as required.

She highlighted the importance of addressing the alleged poor treatment and inconsistent medical advice by the hospital, stressing the need for a thorough investigation into the matter. Raghad highlighted that Taib continues to receive round-the-clock medical support, including nursing care, doctor visits, necessary equipment, and medications, as he awaits admission to CVSKL.

She urged the public to disregard misleading reports and emphasized the importance of respecting Taib's privacy and his right to make informed medical decisions. Raghad also expressed her family's unity and requested the public's prayers for Taib's health and well-being during these challenging times. Meanwhile, a police report has been filed against Raghad, alleging endangerment of Taib's life or personal safety. Sarawak police are currently investigating the matter under Section 336 of the Penal Code.

Abdul Taib Mahmud, 87, served as Sarawak's governor for three terms before stepping down earlier this year. Efforts to obtain comments from Normah Medical Specialist Centre regarding the situation are still pending. Overall, Raghad's statement sheds light on the complexities surrounding Taib's medical care and emphasizes the importance of proper treatment, consistent medical advice, and respect for patients' rights and privacy in healthcare settings.
