Yesterday, netizens were stunned by news of the death of Taiwanese influencer Iris Hsieh Yu-hsin, who was found dead at a KL hotel last month.
The case has since garnered widespread attention as there were rumours linking her death to controversial rapper Namewee, who has since denied any form of involvement.
Case reclassified as murder
Kuala Lumpur police chief CP Datuk Fadil Marsus said in a statement that police have since reclassified the case as murder after it was initially investigated as a sudden death (SDR).
Malay Mail and FMT reported that Namewee, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee, was nabbed by police at the hotel and charged with possessing and using drugs on Oct 22.
Nine pills believed to be ecstasy were also seized at the same time.
Namewee’s mugshot and photo of the pills were later shared by local news media outlet China Press.
Tests later showed he tested positive for amphetamines, methamphetamine, ketamine, and THC.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail of RM4,000 on each charge. The case has been set for mention on Dec 18.
Denied involvement in influencer’s death
Previously, Namewee released a statement reiterating that he never took drugs and claimed the only worst thing he had done so far was “drinking too much”.
He also alleged that he was blackmailed by certain individuals but did not reveal names.
