KUALA TERENGGANU, Aug 10 — Police arrested a man who allegedly acted aggressively and brandished a meat cleaver at a p-hailing worker at a petrol station on Jalan Pasir Panjang here yesterday afternoon.

Kuala Terengganu police chief ACP Azli Mohd Noor said the 55-year-old suspect was arrested at about 10pm last night at his home in Kampung Nibung here.

He said investigations found that the incident was believed to have stemmed from the suspect’s dissatisfaction, as he claimed the victim had taken too long to refuel.

“At about 4.30pm, while the 26-year-old victim was refuelling his motorcycle, the suspect arrived on a Honda Wave motorcycle. The suspect suddenly shouted at and scolded the victim for allegedly taking too long to refuel, but the victim ignored him.

“The enraged suspect then took a meat cleaver from his motorcycle and brandished it at the victim. Fearing for his safety, the victim fled before lodging a police report,” he said in a statement today.

Azli said a urine test found that the suspect tested positive for methamphetamine and that he had 15 previous criminal records involving drugs, theft and assault with a dangerous weapon.

He said the suspect had been remanded for four days from today until August 13 to facilitate investigations under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.

Earlier, a 23-second video went viral on social media showing a man brandishing a knife at a p-hailing worker while the victim was refuelling at a petrol station. — Bernama
