To celebrate three decades of digital pet nostalgia, Tamagotchi has teamed up with Uniqlo UT for a special anniversary collection. The collaboration nods to the original handheld device, blending its playful design with Uniqlo’s laid-back, everyday style.

The lineup includes a bunch of graphic tees covered in cute, classic Tamagotchi designs. But that’s not all. There’s also a special edition Tamagotchi Original shell made just for this collab. It comes in the brand’s signature clock-style design, dressed up with red details and a subtle UT logo behind the screen. Even the packaging has been updated to match the theme.

Each Uniqlo UT x Tamagotchi T-shirt will retail for RM63.46, while the special edition shell may see limited regional availability. The full collection is scheduled to drop at the end of December this year.

The history of Tamagotchi

First introduced in 1996 by Bandai, the Tamagotchi was a groundbreaking digital pet that captivated a generation of children and teens around the world. Created by Aki Maita and Akihiro Yokoi, the tiny egg-shaped device simulated the experience of caring for a living creature, requiring players to feed, clean, and nurture their pixelated companions.

Its simple yet emotionally engaging gameplay made it an instant cultural phenomenon, selling over 80 million units globally and inspiring countless imitations. Beyond its role as a toy, Tamagotchi became a reflection of late-1990s digital culture—bridging the physical and virtual worlds in an era before smartphones. Over the years, Bandai has continued to reinvent the device with colour screens, Bluetooth connectivity, and themed collaborations, yet the nostalgic charm of the original remains unmatched. Nearly three decades later, Tamagotchi endures as both a retro icon and a symbol of digital companionship.
