Tanay wind project transmission system energized — Alternergy

ALTERNERGY Holdings Corp. has energized the transmission infrastructure of its 128-megawatt (MW) Tanay Wind Project, marking a major commissioning milestone that brings the renewable energy facility closer to commercial operations.

The listed renewable energy developer said the milestone covered the successful energization of the project's 500-kilovolt substation and transmission facilities, connecting the wind farm to the national grid.

The company said the project's electrical systems were ready for integrated testing before the start of commercial operations.

"The successful energization of the Tanay Wind Project brings us another step closer to delivering clean, reliable energy to Filipino consumers," Alternergy President Gerry Magbanua said.

He noted that the project was the first wind development under the Department of Energy's Green Energy Auction Program II, which was awarded in 2023.

Alternergy said the Tanay project was equipped with 8-MW wind turbines, which it described as the largest installed in Southeast Asia outside China.

Once fully operational, the wind farm is expected to generate about 283.5 gigawatt-hours of renewable electricity annually, enough to supply around 118,000 households, and is projected to avoid nearly 198,000 metric tons of carbon emissions each year.

The company said the project was part of its target to develop an additional 500 MW of renewable energy capacity this year while supporting the government's efforts to increase the share of renewable energy in the country's power generation mix.

Alternergy shares on Thursday dipped P0.20, or 2.56 percent, to close at P0.76 apiece.
