KOTA KINABALU: The Tanjung Aru state constituency has always stood by local parties, and there's no indication that will change in the upcoming state election.

Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) Tanjung Aru committee member, Dr Ritchie Jay Cheng said this responding to a national party's declared intention to contest the seat in the 17th Sabah state election.

“Historically, Tanjung Aru has consistently voted for local parties.

He was met after handing over timber planks for bridge repair works in Sembulan and Pulau Gaya on Wednesday.

Dr. Ritchie noted that Gagasan Rakyat Tanjung Aru has more than 90 active branches and a strong grassroots network across the constituency.

He added that the party continues to support the community through welfare initiatives, local problem-solving, and persistent advocacy.

“We respect any party’s decision to contest, but at the end of the day, the vote belongs to the people,” he said.

Dr Ritchie stressed that Gagasan Rakyat remains focused on serving the people year-round, not just during election season.

“The people of Tanjung Aru knows who has always stood by them,” he added.
