Penawar assemblyman Fauziah Misri says Tanjung Lompat Beach is unmaintained and not open for public recreation, following the drowning incident.
KOTA TINGGI: Tanjung Lompat Beach, here is an area that is not open to the public for any recreational activities including bathing and picnics.
Penawar state assemblyman Fauziah Misri said the beach area is also not maintained by any party.
“This area is not open to the public and is mostly used by (local fishermen) to catch fish using boats,” she said at a press conference at the scene of the incident, here today.
In this regard, Fauziah said her party would discuss with the authorities to install warning signs to prevent such incidents from happening again.
She also appealed to the public not to circulate pictures or make any speculation regarding the incident involving six 16-year-old boys.
According to her, appropriate assistance would also be provided by her party to the families of the victims involved.
Fauziah also expressed her sympathy over the drowning incident that killed a father and son at the Punggai campsite, which is 22 kilometres from the beach location three days ago.
Yesterday, one of the teenagers was found drowned at 1.25 pm, while the other three are still missing.
The other two teenagers were successfully rescued by members of the public.
The fire department said it received an emergency call at 8.19 am regarding the incident, with the victim being part of a group of 15 people who had been camping in the area for the past two days.
The search sector for the second day of the search and rescue (SAR) operation was expanded to two nautical miles northwest of Tanjung Lompat Beach, assisted by two drone units belonging to the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency and the Fire and Rescue Department which are capable of monitoring as far as 20 kilometres.
