Norazlan Mahayuddin pleaded not guilty after both charges were read before Magistrate Anis Adlina Abu Johan.

Charged over deaths of mother and son

According to the charges, Norazlan allegedly drove the tanker dangerously, taking into account the road conditions, road size and expected traffic conditions.

The incident happened at around 4pm on August 14 along Jalan Temerloh-Triang near Kampung Lebak.

The crash claimed the lives of Nur Fatima Syuhada Abdullah, 39, and her son, Muhamad Fattah Aisy Naufal Saifulnizam, 12.

Both charges were brought under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries a jail term of between five and 10 years and a fine of RM20,000 to RM50,000 upon conviction.

Granted RM10,000 bail

During the proceedings, Norazlan’s lawyer from the National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK) asked the court for minimum bail, saying he had cooperated with investigators and was not a flight risk.

The lawyer also highlighted that Norazlan has family responsibilities and would attend court as required. The court eventually granted him RM10,000 bail, with RM5,000 set for each charge.

The case will be mentioned again on October 1 for document submission and the appointment of counsel.

Mother and son killed in fiery crash

The fatal accident occurred when the car carrying the mother and son was involved in a collision with the tanker lorry.

The tanker reportedly crossed into the opposite lane before crashing into their car. The tanker then overturned and crushed the car, with both vehicles subsequently catching fire.

The mother and son were trapped inside and died in the blaze.
