TEMERLOH, Aug 18 — A tanker lorry driver today pleaded not guilty at the Magistrate’s Court here to two counts of reckless driving that caused the deaths of a mother and her son at KM9 of Jalan Temerloh-Triang here last Friday.

Nor Azlan Mahayudin, 37, entered the plea after the charges were read out before Magistrate Anis Adlina Abu Johan.

He was charged with driving the tanker dangerously, causing the deaths of Nur Fatima Syuhada Abdullah, 39, and Muhamad Fattah Aisy Nuafal Saifulnizam, 12, at about 4pm on Aug 14.

The charges were made under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which provides for a minimum jail term of five years and a maximum of 10 years, as well as a fine of between RM20,000 and RM50,000, upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Amal Razim Alias appeared for the prosecution, while the accused was represented by National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK) lawyer Mazieera Sharifudin.

The court allowed the accused bail of RM10,000 for the two charges and set Oct 1 for mention.

Last Friday, Nur Fatima Syuhada and Muhamad Fattah Aisy Nuafal were found burnt to death inside a car that caught fire after being crushed by a tanker lorry carrying 32,000 litres of fuel. — Bernama
