
A suspected member of a five-person criminal gang involved in drug trafficking, theft, and illegal arms dealing has been arrested by local police in Tarn Taran.
Acting on intelligence, a police team led by Sub-Inspector Nirmal Singh raided an area near Rohi Kanda, close to the Tarn Taran Civil Hospital, late last night. Officers apprehended a suspect identified as Shivcharan (alias Charan), a resident of Guru ka Khuh Mohalla, whilst the remaining four gang members managed to flee the scene.
According to Sub-Inspector Nirmal, the syndicate was formed to carry out various illicit operations, including the sale of heroin, snatch-and-grab thefts, and the smuggling of illegal firearms.
During the arrest, police recovered 12 grams of heroin, Rs 1,600 in alleged drug money, and an electronic weighing scale from Shivcharan’s possession.
The four absconding suspects have been identified as Prabhpreet Kaur of Santa Banta Colony (Chabal Road), Amandeep Singh of Gali Channan Singh Mohalla (Tank Kashatri), Happy of Dhora Chowki, and Lakhwinder Singh (alias Lakha) of Palasaur.
Authorities have registered a case against the group under multiple statutes, including Sections 21, 27-A, 61, and 85 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act; Sections 303 (2), 304 (2), 317 (2), and 111 (4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS); and Sections 25, 54, and 59 of the Arms Act.
A manhunt is currently underway to apprehend the remaining fugitives.
