TAWAU: A 35-year-old local contractor has been arrested here for allegedly committing physical sexual assault against his four-year-old daughter.
Acting district police chief Supt Wilynton Enchana Watt said a police report was lodged at 6.15pm on July 27 by a medical officer following an examination of the child at Tawau Hospital.
Initial investigations revealed that the victim’s mother had brought her to the hospital's Emergency Department after the girl complained that her father had touched her private parts.
Officers from the District Criminal Investigation Department subsequently located and detained the suspect at the Tawau Hospital grounds at 10.50pm on the same day.
The case is being investigated under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which carries a prison term of up to 20 years and whipping upon conviction.
