
TAWAU: Police here managed to thwart the smuggling of cigarettes, gambling and drugs during a seven-day integrated crime prevention operation.
They detained 28 suspects and seized syabu, cigarettes and some gambling tools, including cash money, from different locations.
“We will increase the level of security in residential, urban and commercial areas by carrying out patrols,” said District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin.
He said the police would continue to carry out integrated crime prevention operations from time to time as part of an aggressive step to reduce the crime rate in Tawau. Meanwhile, police also conducted eight raids at different drug addiction hotspots here during a three-day “Op Tapis Khas Semalaysia.”
Thirty-one suspects were arrested for investigations under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, Section 12(2) of the same Act and Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act.
A total of 21.68gm of drugs believed to be syabu were seized.
Jasmin said this was the fifth “Op Tapis Khas Semalaysia” conducted simultaneously throughout Malaysia in order to curb the drug abuse problem.
