Tawau Port gets RM70m upgrade with two new quay cranes

TAWAU: The acquisition of two new quay cranes worth RM70 million for Tawau Port is a strategic move to strengthen Sabah's port infrastructure and support long-term economic growth, said Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

The Chief Minister said the investment reflects the state government’s commitment through Sabah Ports Sdn Bhd (SPSB) to modernize critical infrastructure, boosting efficiency and competitiveness particularly in the East Coast.

Speaking at the official launching ceremony here on Sunday, Hajiji noted that the cranes will enhance productivity, operational reliability, speed up vessel turnaround times, and handle larger ships alongside growing cargo volumes.

Suria Capital Holdings Berhad Chairman Datuk Seri Abd Rahman Dahlan stated that the RM70 million investment underlines the group’s long-term commitment to equipping Tawau Port for future trade demands and driving regional economic development.

Meanwhile, Suria Capital Holdings Berhad and SPSB Group Managing Director Datuk Ahmad Rizal Dahli added that the acquisition is part of SPSB's ongoing efforts to modernize facilities, improve service quality for port users, and support the state's expanding logistics needs.
