TAWAU: More than 70 representatives from government agencies, industry, academia, conservation organisations, financial institutions and the young entrepreneur community gathered here on Tuesday to explore opportunities under Sabah’s Blue Economy agenda.
The Tawau Blue Economy Seminar, organised by the Sabah Young Business & Industry Leaders Network (Sybil) with the support of Sekretariat Sabah Maju Jaya (SSMJ), was led by Sybil Blue Economy Taskforce organising chairlady Shazarina Samantha.
Among those attending were Assistant Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Andi Rizal, SSMJ Chief Operating Officer Datuk Ramlee Kariah, Sabah Fisheries Department director Lawrence Kissol Jr, UPPM Sri Tanjong Community Development Leader Edmund Lo Khai Vun and Teraju senior director of Business Services and Entrepreneurship Mohd Najib Jaafar.
The programme featured a keynote presentation on Sabah’s Blue Economy SMJ 2.0 agenda by Ramlee, followed by panel sessions on “Sabah’s Blue Economy Policies and Outlook” and “Young Entrepreneurship Journey in Scaling Blue Economy Industries”, covering renewable energy, blue carbon, marine biotechnology, sustainable tourism, downstream industries and other emerging sectors.
Sybil said the seminar, initially planned for 50 participants, drew more than 70 registered attendees and provided a platform for government, industry, investors, researchers and young entrepreneurs to discuss partnerships, business opportunities and initiatives related to Sabah’s Blue Economy, with Tawau identified as having potential to play a significant role in its development.
