
TAWAU: A 28-year-old mechanic, suspected of being involved in a break-in at a workshop on Jalan Bukit Kukusan, here, which resulted in a loss of RM40,000 on Jan 21, was apprehended by police.
Tawau District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the suspect was arrested at a hut on Jalan Tanjung Batu at 10.30pm on Thursday.
AdvertisementHe said the suspect was detained during an operation conducted by officers and personnel from the Tawau Criminal Investigation Division (BSJ) and District Police Headquarters (IPD) following intelligence gathering and surveillance.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is believed to have broken into the workshop and stole various equipment and valuable items.

Read more “Among the stolen items were a Yamaha 15 horsepower engine, vehicle components and electrical tools, all estimated to be worth RM40,000,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft, which carries a penalty of up to seven years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both, on conviction.
AdvertisementFurther investigations showed the suspect had eight prior records related to criminal activities and drugs.
Jasmin advised the public to remain vigilant and take security measures to avoid becoming victims of crime.
