MANILA, Philippines—Over one million personnel of the Department of Education (DelEd), including 900,000 public school teachers and 100,000 non-teaching personnel, will receive their mid-year bonus today, May 15.
Education Secretary Sonny Angara said that the timely provision of the benefit reflects the administration’s recognition of the vital role played by the education workforce in national development and learning recovery.
“Based on the directive of President Bongbong Marcos, we recognize the sacrifice and dedication of our teachers and staff. The early release of the mid-year bonus is part of our commitment to prioritize the welfare of those who directly shape the future of our students,” Angara said in a statement.
He added that both teaching and non-teaching personnel are central to the administration’s education reform efforts, particularly in the implementation of literacy, numeracy, and digital learning initiatives.
“As we prepare for another school year, our goal is to ensure that there is sufficient support for our education workforce. When our teachers and staff are motivated and supported, our schools become better prepared for the learning of every Filipino child,” Angara said.
The mid-year bonus is equivalent to one month's basic salary of qualified government employees under Department of Budget and Management Budget Circular No. 2017-2, with the incentive covering qualified teaching and non-teaching personnel nationwide, including those in regular, casual, and contractual positions who meet the prescribed requirements.
These include rendering at least a total or an aggregate of four months of service from July 1 of the previous year until May 15 of the current year, remaining in government service as of May 15, and receiving at least a satisfactory performance rating in the most recent evaluation period.
