
Pending arrears, leave encashment, medical reimbursements, pay fixation and the clearance of teachers’ and school-related dues were among the key issues discussed during a meeting between leaders of the Government Teachers Union, Punjab (Jalandhar unit) and the District Education Officer (Elementary), Jalandhar.
Held under the chairmanship of District President Karnail Phillaur, the meeting addressed a range of agenda items, including teachers’ welfare and the timely resolution of their pending issues, along with the budgetary requirements of schools. The marathon meeting saw several issues being resolved on the spot, while officials were directed to ensure time-bound action on the remaining matters.
On the occasion, District Secretary Sukhwinder Singh Makkar and Senior Vice President Baljit Singh Kular said that, with the consent of the District Education Officer, Jalandhar, the Block Education Officer, Phillaur, had been asked to ensure necessary action within two days for the release of April salary and February arrears of teachers posted at Block Phillaur on a temporary basis. Newly appointed ETT teacher Munish Goyal also directed the concerned DDO to take immediate action regarding pay protection at Government Primary School, Laroya, Block Bhogpur.
Among other actions, speedy proceedings were also directed to ensure fixed salaries and release of arrears for the 6635 (union) teachers. Regarding this, blocks were asked to take immediate action after endorsing the letter released by the department on the matter. Block primary officers were also asked to immediately release pending arrears from 2016 to 2021 and to pay the earned leave/pay fixation arrears of teachers who retired January 1, 2016 onwards. It was also agreed to send all the cases concerning foreign leave, from Jalandhar office to Mohali.
A report was sought from all the block primary officers regarding the medical bills and especially regarding the medical dues of the late ETT teacher Nawan Pind Araiyan, Nakodar, Block 2, Harmesh Kumar, who had been suffering from cancer and whose wife is also an education provider. Pay fixation of ETT teacher Renu Bala, Primary School, Shankar, Block Nakodar 2 was also discussed and orders were issued to the block Nakodar office staff to reach the DEO office on Thursday on the matter. A consensus was also reached on rendering the GPF of all blocks online.
Additional funds have been sent to blocks to pay the electricity bills of primary schools. The Deputy District Education Officer was asked to take action regarding the pending 30 days medical leave of Gurinder Singh, ETT, Paragpur East One.
