Kota Kinabalu: Team KHKS emerged champions in the Olympia Badminton Invitation teams league tournament which concluded at the Olympia Badminton Arena in Inanam on Sunday.

They topped the league table with 65 points after beating Mee Ngar 8-2 in the final game on Sunday to collect the RM3,000 cash prize.

Team Amelia, who thrashed IJP BC 10-0 in their final game, edged Mee Ngar with 46 points for the runners-up spot and RM2,000 cash, while Mee Ngar with 43 points had to settle for RM1,000 in third place.

Organising chairman Jacko Pan, who presented the winning prizes at the closing ceremony, said a total of eight teams were invited for the competition which started in April.

“This is the first time a league format tournament is being held in the district and we hope it will serve as a platform for junior players to hone their talents for a bigger stage in the future.

“We also hope to see the involvement of more “strong people’ in our committee to ensure further success in upcoming tournaments.

“In fact, it does not stop there, we also urge members of the public to donate or to lend financial assistance in a joint effort to develop badminton in Sabah,” he said.

He added that they intend to organise bigger scale team events sometimes in August.
