Tebobon potholes: Road users raise safety concerns

Kota Kinabalu: Road users have raised concerns over potholes along the Tebobon road, saying the damage has affected driving conditions and posed safety risks.

Daily road user Syamsul Maarif Suardi said the potholes were not a new problem and continued to cause difficulties and safety concerns for motorists using the route.

He said the road was heavily used daily, but its condition had become a concern among road users.

“This is a main route used by many people every day. Why do the Public Works Department (PWD) or appointed contractors appear not to be paying attention to the safety of road users? This situation is very dangerous,” he said.

Syamsul said some motorists had experienced vehicle damage, including burst tyres and damaged rims, after hitting deep potholes, particularly at night or during heavy rain when the potholes were filled with water.

He also claimed that minor accidents and vehicle damage had occurred repeatedly, while temporary patching works did not appear to last long before the road surface deteriorated again.

He urged PWD, the local authorities and the elected representative for the area to look into the road’s condition and consider more comprehensive repairs.

Syamsul said a long-term solution and proper road repairs were needed to improve the safety and convenience of road users.

He also urged the relevant authorities to inspect the actual condition of the Tebobon road and expedite resurfacing works.
