SHAH ALAM - MCA Youth Information chief Neow Choo Seong has called for Transport Minister Anthony Loke to resign over MyEG and Zetrix AI’s failure to remit RM314 million in outstanding government revenue.
Neow said the RM314 million in outstanding collections covered the period from May 19 to Sept 30, while raising concerns over the personal data of millions of Road Transport Department (RTD) users allegedly still held by the companies.
He claimed the data included users’ full names, MyKad numbers, home addresses, mobile phone numbers, email addresses, vehicle registration numbers, driving licence details, summons records and payment transaction information.
“While the services have been suspended, MyEG and Zetrix AI still retain and control the personal data of millions of RTD users,” he said in a statement today.
Neow also questioned whether sufficient guarantees were in place to ensure the safety of the data, particularly following reports that a RM231 million government cheque had been withheld.
He said the alleged exposure could increase the risk of identity theft, scams and misuse of personal information if the data fell into the wrong hands.
Neow also claimed that vehicle movement records and residential addresses could pose a national security risk if accessed by external parties.
He said Loke had highlighted 35 reminder notices and four engagement sessions aimed at recovering the outstanding collections, but had not addressed the status of the personal data allegedly still held on private company servers.
“The Transport Minister has not only failed to safeguard public funds, but has also failed to safeguard the personal data of the people,” he said.
Neow called for an independent commission of inquiry to be established immediately and urged Loke to resign.
He said the issue should be investigated independently to address concerns over both the outstanding government collections and the handling of personal data.
“An independent commission of inquiry must be established immediately,” he said.
