BEAUFORT: A teenage boy died on Sunday night after the motorcycle he was riding crashed into a road barrier along Jalan Kampung Betanduk towards Kota Klias here.
Beaufort District Police Chief Supt Champin Piuh said police received a call about the incident at 8.14pm.
“Preliminary findings showed that the victim’s motorcycle was travelling through a bend when he lost control and crashed into the road barrier,” he said, Monday.
He said the victim sustained injuries to his body and face, while medical personnel who rushed to the scene confirmed that he had died on the spot.
Members of the public with information on the incident have been urged to contact investigating officer Insp Khairul Shahzree Hashim at 010-2531451.
Champin advised all road users to exercise caution, particularly when negotiating bends, and to ensure their vehicles were in good condition and comply with traffic regulations.
He also noted that dark and poorly lit stretches of road were among the contributing factors, adding that two road fatalities had been recorded in the Beaufort area this week alone.
The latest fatality followed an earlier accident along Jalan Kampung Lumat, which claimed the life of a motorcyclist.
In a separate case, police detained a man by the roadside in Kampung Nukahan on suspicion of substance abuse.
A search found 0.67 grammes of syabu in his possession. The suspect was subsequently taken to the police station for further action.
The case is being investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Police reiterated that they would continue to take firm action against drug-related activities to keep the community free from the drug threat.
Meanwhile, in Papar, police raided and inspected a premises in the district.
Papar District Police Chief Supt Heryan Mohd Tahir said a woman was detained under Ops Dadu on suspicion of involvement in illegal public lottery gambling activities.
Gambling equipment believed to have been used in the operation was also seized.
The woman and the seized items were brought to Papar Police Headquarters for further action.
