Search continues for missing 14-year-old after body of 15-year-old Muhammad Amir Ashraf found in river near Paka.

DUNGUN: The body of a 15-year-old boy, believed to have drowned while swimming with his brother in Sungai Beril near Taman Beril, Paka, this morning, was found this afternoon.

Acting Dungun police chief DSP Jumaidy Bah Chong Weh said the body of Muhammad Amir Ashraf was found by a search and rescue (SAR) team at 3.47 pm.

He said divers from the Chukai Fire and Rescue Department’s Water Rescue Team found the body of the Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama Durian Guling student on the riverbed at a depth of about 5.1 metres.

“The body was located some seven metres from where the victim was last seen. The body has been sent to the Dungun Hospital forensic unit for a post-mortem,” he said when contacted today.

Jumaidy said the search continues for the victim’s 14-year-old brother, Muhammad Aidil Amsyar Mohd Zul-Zunaidi, who remains missing.

A 37-member search-and-rescue team, comprising Fire and Rescue Department personnel, police, and local villagers, was deployed after an emergency call was received at 10.56 am.

The two brothers were swimming with two friends, Muhammad Farish Iqbal Cik Mohanarunasdi, 14, and Muhammad Afi Naashif Adli Noone, 15, who managed to swim to safety.
