RANAU: A teenage girl was found dead, believed to have drowned, while bathing in the river near Kampung Sungangon, here, on Monday.

Ranau Fire and Rescue Station Chief Ridwan Mohd Taib said the body of the 13-year-old was found around 4.10pm.

He said the victim was found by villagers about 500 meters from where she was reported missing.

“We received a report on the incident at 4.37pm and rushed a team to the scene,” he said, adding the victim was lifted by firefighters to be examined by a medical team.

Read more According to Ridwan, the victim was confirmed dead at the scene and handed over to the police for follow-up action.

“After making sure there was no more danger, the operation ended at 7.35pm.

“The search and rescue operation (SAR) was led by PBK II Becket Gumat, with three personnel and a fire engine,” he said.
