KOTA MARUDU: A teenager was killed after being struck by a car while crossing the road in Pekan Kota Marudu on Sunday.
District Police Chief Supt Simiun Lomudin said the 18-year-old victim, identified as Afizaen Ismail, suffered severe head injuries after being hit by a Proton Saga Iswara Aeroback around 11.20pm.
He said preliminary investigations showed the 32-year-old driver was travelling from Bulatan Goshen towards Kampung Parong.
Upon reaching the Kota Marudu-Pitas Road, near the Community Hall junction, the pedestrian suddenly appeared in the middle of the road while attempting to cross toward Anjung Samudera Restaurant, Medan Marudu.
Simiun said the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by Kota Marudu Hospital medical personnel.
