TAWAU: A teenage boy was rushed to Tawau Hospital after being bitten by a cobra in front of a tyre shop at Batu 3, Jalan Apas, on Tuesday.
Tawau Fire and Rescue Station chief Jemishin Ujin said the victim, identified as Muhammad Danish Isyraf Bongging, was reported to be in stable condition after receiving treatment.
He said the victim had been taken to the hospital in a family member’s vehicle before the arrival of the fire and rescue team.
According to him, a team of five firefighters was dispatched to the location, about eight kilometres from the station, following an emergency call received at 7.50pm.
“Upon arriving at 8.03pm, operations commander PBK I Ahmad Pramuja Zainadun reported that the team found a Sumatran spitting cobra (Naja sumatrana) in front of the tyre shop.
“The firefighters then captured the snake to ensure the safety of people in the area. The operation ended at 8.18pm after ensuring there was no further threat,” he said.
Jemishin said the Tawau Fire and Rescue Station Control Room contacted Tawau Hospital at 9am on Wednesday for an update on the victim and was informed that he remained in stable condition.
