A 16-year-old boy is missing and feared drowned after disappearing while collecting clams at Pantai Balok in Kuantan this evening.

KUANTAN: A teenage boy is feared to have drowned while foraging for clams at Pantai Balok here this evening.

The Pahang Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call regarding the 16-year-old’s disappearance at 6.02 pm.

A team from the Kuantan Fire and Rescue Station was immediately deployed to the scene. Personnel commenced search operations along the shoreline with assistance from members of the public.

“The victim has yet to be found and the search and rescue operation is still ongoing,” said assistant operations director Mohd Salahuddin Isa.

The department’s Water Rescue Team has also been alerted to assist in the ongoing operation.

The search involves 12 personnel using a Fire Rescue Tender, a four-wheel-drive vehicle, a lorry and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services unit.
