
KUDAT: A family outing at Simpang Mengayau Beach turned tragic when a 15-year-old boy was believed to have drowned on Sunday.
Kudat Fire and Rescue Station chief Darickson Galanang said the teenager was reported missing before being found unconscious by rescuers about 400 metres from shore at 1pm.
He was immediately brought to land, where rescue personnel attempted to resuscitate him.
Despite their efforts, the boy was pronounced dead at 1.43pm by Health Ministry staff, and his body was later handed to police for further action.
Eight fire personnel were dispatched from the Kudat station after receiving the emergency call at 12.28pm.
