RANAU: A teenage girl was found drowned after being reported swept away while swimming in a river at Kampung Sungangon, Jalan Ranau–Sandakan, here, on Monday.

The victim, 13-year-old Nerlyne Christine Januai, was discovered unconscious by local villagers approximately 500 metres from where she was reported to have drowned.

Ranau Fire and Rescue Station Chief Ridwan Mohd Taib said they received a report of the incident at 4.37 pm.

Firefighters were then dispatched to the location for a search and rescue (SAR) operation.
