
A 17-year-old has been arrested in Hamburg over plans to commit a terrorist attack, authorities said on Monday.
The Hamburg Public Prosecutor's Office said the Syrian national is believed to have been inspired by the Islamic State terrorist organization.
The teenager was detained by special forces in the northern German city on Thursday after investigations by several federal intelligence services and local police.
He allegedly planned to kill "infidels," with targets including a shopping centre, a bar and a police station.
According to prosecutors, the teenager is said to have intended to use a knife, explosives or Molotov cocktails. In preparation for the attacks, he is said to have obtained fertilizer, lighter fluid, a balaclava and a knife.
