KOTA KINABALU: A total of 33 documents have been served to the counsels of five teenagers charged at the Court for Children with using insulting words towards Zara Qairina Mahathir.

Sabah Court Officer Cindy Mc Juce Balitus said the prosecution delivered 15 documents to the first child offender, and 18 documents each to the second, third, fourth, and fifth offenders, in line with Section 51A of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The documents were handed over during pre-trial case management on Thursday. Cindy added that the prosecution will serve five additional documents during further pre-trial proceedings on October 16.

The case was mentioned before Sessions Court Judge Elsie Primus.

Cindy also confirmed that the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) was granted leave to appear as a watching brief pursuant to Section 12(3)(c) of the Child Act 2001.

The teenagers are accused of uttering insulting words that were heard and allegedly caused disturbance.

The offence reportedly took place between 10pm and 11pm on July 15 this year.
