SANDAKAN: Police have arrested 10 individuals, including two main suspects, following the discovery of a 62-year-old woman’s decomposed body inside a house in Tanah Merah, Jalan Leila.
Sandakan police chief ACP George Abd Rakman said members of the public alerted police at 8.10pm on Aug 19 after detecting a foul smell coming from the premises, leading officers to discover the victim bound and covered with a piece of cloth inside a toilet.
Subsequent investigations by the Sandakan Criminal Investigation Division and the Sabah forensic team led to the arrest of five men and five women, aged between 10 and 39, comprising seven locals and three Filipino nationals.
Initial police investigations suggest the incident stemmed from a dispute over payment for renovation work and dissatisfaction over an increase in monthly rental for the property.
Police seized a wooden stick believed to have been used in the crime alongside personal belongings of the victim, and the case is currently being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
