Ten man Man City stun Man United after Foden red card in chaotic derby

  • Phil Foden was shown a straight red card in the 23rd minute of the Manchester derby at Old Trafford after reacting to a tangle with Bruno Fernandes by kicking the Manchester United captain in the stomach.
  • Despite playing with 10 men, Manchester City opened the scoring just after the hour mark when Erling Haaland expertly converted Josko Gvardiol's deflected cross at the far post.
  • Haaland's goal was initially disallowed for offside by the referee, but was subsequently awarded following a lengthy VAR intervention which determined he was played onside by Patrick Dorgu.
  • Ahead of kick-off, Manchester United supporters gathered near the Bishops Blaize pub to stage a joint protest against both the Glazer family and co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
  • The pre-match demonstrations were mounted in response to a season-ticketing fiasco that recently resulted in 685 United supporters receiving stadium bans.
