
Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Karate Association (SKA) are represented by a 10-member team at the 24th Milo Open Karate Championship 2025 starting today (Thursday) in Kuala Lumpur.
The contingent is led by coach Frederick Farlin with Abd Rahim Mohd Asmawi as team official.
The athletes on the list are Harris Qusyairi Helmy (youth U14 male individual kata 12-13), Nur Shaheen Izazi Imtiaz Ali (female individual kata junior 16-17), Putri Izz Dini Imtiaz Ali (girls individual kata 8-9 and individual kumite 8-9 +25kg G1), Abra Eiiyah Isabelle Mohd Asmawi (girls individual kata 8-9 and individual kumite 8-9 +25kg G2), Rizalman Onog (veteran male individual kumite 35 above), Danish Rayyan Rajis (male cadet kumite 14-15 -57kg and individual kata cadet 14-15 G1), Nur Radhiah Fathiah Razimi (female junior kumite 16-17 -48kg), Al Zovainz Zurizal (male cadet kumite 14-15 -63kg), Ivy Catrinaz Zurizal (female U14 kumite 12-13 -47kg and youth U14 female individual kata 12-13 G2) and Mickail Zaquan Zurizal (male junior kumite 16-17 -68kg).

However, its secretary general Julian Chin admitted that they are unlikely to repeat the feats with the much smaller contingent.
“We are not setting any target this time as we only have 10 athletes taking part unlike last year where we were represented by some 100 members.
“The reason for the very much smaller contingent this year is because there are more upcoming competitions scheduled in July, August and September, which we will be participating in,” he said.
