Tenerife striker Jesus de Miguel has died aged 30 from injuries sustained in an on-pitch collision during a match on Monday.
De Miguel was initially treated on the pitch after he suffered a cardiac arrest following a clash late in added time with Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono, before being rushed to hospital. The match was abandoned following the collision.
Tenerife initially reported that he was “stable, despite the severity of his condition” in the intensive care unit of Hospital Universitario de Nuestra Señora de Candelaria in Santa Cruz, before reporting that his neurological condition had worsened in the early hours of Tuesday.

The Spanish second division club released a statement saying he had passed away at 8am on Tuesday. It said: “Heartbroken, with a lump in our throats and unable to believe this is true, we at CD Tenerife announce the tragic passing of Jesus de Miguel Alameda.
“There are no words of comfort. There is absolutely nothing that can ease this overwhelming sense of sadness.
“We stand with his devastated family, with his loved ones, and with the entire Tenerife footballing community, who today mourn this cruel turn of events.
“The family of Jesus de Miguel would like to thank everyone for their expressions of support and, from the bottom of their hearts, ask that their privacy be respected at this terrible time.”
The Spanish Football Federation announced the postponed of Tuesday’s Copa del Rey and Copa del Reina matches. “We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends and loved ones, as well as to Club Deportivo Tenerife and all its fans, whom we accompany in these moments of great sorrow,” it said.

The Spanish Footballers’ Association also expressed its “deep sorrow” at his death, writing: “His loss leaves a huge void among those of us who shared his passion for football, his commitment to the football community, and his work in defense of the rights of fellow professionals.
“The Board of Directors, all the workers of AFE and the footballers’ collective wish to convey our deepest condolences to his family, friends and loved ones, as well as to his teammates at Club Deportivo Tenerife.
“In these moments of immense sadness, we send you all our love, support and solidarity. You will always be part of our family. Rest in peace, comrade.”

Esperem que es recuperi aviat. Una abraçada molt forta al jugador, a la seva família i al CD Tenerife.
The scoreline was 2-2 when De Miguel was sent through on goal, with keeper Owono rushing out and colliding with him in the chest. Owono, who was shown a straight red card for the challenge, immediately ran to his side as De Miguel appeared motionless, along with other players from both teams and medical staff, before the 30-year-old was taken to hospital.
De Miguel, who made his professional debut in 2015 for Leganes B, signed a three-year contract with Tenerife in 2025 and helped the club earn promotion back to the Segunda Division, scoring 11 goals in 29 games.
Several Spanish teams, including Barcelona and Real Madrid, paid tribute, while Fifpro, the world players’ union, said: “Fifpro is deeply saddened by the passing of CD Tenerife player Jesus de Miguel. Our thoughts are with Jesus’ family, friends, team-mates, everyone at CD Tenerife, and all those affected. Rest in peace, Jesus.”
La Liga president Javier Tebas expressed his shock and said the league would work to support the club and De Miguel’s family, and said he would speak to Tenerife about potentially postponing their next match out of concern for the players’ welfare. Speaking in an interview with Television Canaria, Tebas also raised the possibility of a joint tribute between La Liga and the Segunda Division.
Uefa president Aleksander Ceferin said: “We are heartbroken by the death of Jesus de Miguel Alameda. We have searched for words and found only silence. In that silence, our hearts and thoughts are with his family, his team-mates, everyone at Tenerife, and all those who mourn this tragic loss.”
All Uefa matches this week will be preceded with a moment of silence in memory of De Miguel.
