THE MADANI Government must ensure its reform agenda and economic achievements translate into tangible improvements that Malaysians can see and feel, Prime Minister’s Senior Political Advisor Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz said.
He said although the Government had undertaken numerous initiatives, much more needed to be done to ensure their benefits reached all segments of society.
“Good numbers must be followed by spillover effects felt by all citizens. The nation’s economy grew 6%, outperforming all forecasts, but we need to ensure the people reap the benefits,” he said in a Facebook post on Saturday.
Tengku Zafrul said the debates at the 2026 PKR National Congress in Melaka were broadly in line with the tone and core message of PKR President Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s policy speech.
He said the message was clear that although the MADANI Government had achieved much, its work remained far from complete and further measures would be pursued for the benefit of the people.
The two-day congress, themed “Reviving Reform, Building MADANI”, is being held at the Melaka International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITC) in Ayer Keroh.
Tengku Zafrul also stressed the need for the Government and PKR to intensify their communication efforts so Malaysians were aware of the initiatives and achievements already delivered.
“The list of initiatives and results of the MADANI Government shared by the President earlier is long, but our communication work also needs to be intensified so that the people know about them. If the people do not know, that is not the people’s fault. That is our own delivery shortcoming,” he said.
He said Anwar had outlined several areas requiring further action, including the abolition of the Universities and University Colleges Act (AUKU), efforts to rehabilitate key institutions serving the people such as the Federal Land Development Authority (FELDA), and various economic initiatives to be announced in the upcoming Budget.
“These matters mean that the MADANI Government, particularly KEADILAN, is clear and unequivocal that our work is far from finished,” he said.
Tengku Zafrul said the Government’s ability to deliver further reforms would depend not only on policy but also on stronger implementation, better communication and greater party solidarity.
“I am confident, with this approach, coupled with improvements in our working mechanisms and party solidarity - God willing, we will be able to win the people’s trust to continue implementing fresh agendas for the sake of the people,” he said.
He added PKR’s strength ultimately depended on its willingness to listen more effectively to the people and strengthen its machinery.
“The strength of KEADILAN depends on our willingness to listen better and strengthen the machinery,” he said.
Tengku Zafrul said the central objective must remain ensuring that the reform struggle produced meaningful outcomes for Malaysians.
“And most importantly, ensuring that the reform struggle is translated into results that can be seen and felt by the people,” he said. - August 16, 2026
