PANDAN Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli described the move by Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz to leave Umno for PKR as the opening of a political floodgate that the unity government may find difficult to contain.
He said that when the Unity Government was formed, there were no clear provisions on whethere members could be recruited from other parties.
"So when this happens, I think Umno's views or criticisms are reasonable and need to be taken into account by the entire leadership in the Unity Government.
"Umno's views are from the perspective of maintaining harmony among the parties.
"So I think this matter will eventually be discussed at the Unity Government level because it is something that has not been finalised," he said as reported by Berita Harian.
Asked if he had received an offer to join another party, he insisted that he was not interested.
"I have not read any messages on my phone and there is no WhatsApp application. All party leaders know this.
"Nurul Izzah Anwar also met me and wanted to offer me the position of an appointed Deputy President, but I am not interested in any position.
"This is not about the position, but the message and struggle that we want to bring," he said.
Rafizi, who is also the Minister of Economy and is on leave until June 16, said he would remain as a Member of Parliament because this is a mandate from the people and that decision must be respected.
"The same applies to involvement in the party because the one who gave the mandate was the Pandan Branch, so I have to respect the two mandates," he added. - June 1, 2025
