Firefighters have been tirelessly battling a massive blaze engulfing 300 acres of land in Beluran for ten consecutive days, beginning on May 17.
Beluran Fire and Rescue Station chief Edoen Macheal provided an update on the progress. As of today, the dedicated team has successfully extinguished fires on 63 out of the 150 acres of affected land.
On this tenth day of operations, more than 20 firefighting personnel commenced their efforts at 8:10 am. Their primary objective was to prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent areas, which posed a significant risk due to the dry conditions and strong winds.
To bolster their efforts, the Fire and Rescue Department's (JBPM) Air Unit was deployed to the location in the afternoon. The Air Unit carried out four rounds of water bombing, a critical strategy in combating large-scale wildfires.
"The team managed to put out fires on three acres of affected land today (May 26) before postponing the operation at 5:30 pm," said Macheal in a statement.
Despite the challenging conditions, the firefighters' persistent efforts have made substantial progress in controlling the blaze. However, the vast expanse of the fire and the rugged terrain continue to pose significant challenges to the firefighting teams on the ground.
Edoen Macheal emphasized that the operation is ongoing and that updates will be provided as more information becomes available. The firefighters remain committed to extinguishing the blaze completely and ensuring the safety of the surrounding areas.
The situation has drawn attention to the importance of preparedness and swift response in managing wildfires, which can quickly escalate and cause widespread damage. The efforts of the Beluran firefighting team, supported by the JBPM Air Unit, highlight the dedication and resilience of these emergency responders in the face of such daunting tasks.
As the battle against the Beluran blaze continues, the community remains hopeful that the firefighters will soon bring the situation under control and prevent further devastation. Regular updates will be crucial in keeping the public informed about the progress and any new developments in this ongoing operation.
