A Terengganu state executive council member will be charged in court for allegedly abusing his position to secure jobs for his children at state subsidiaries.

KUALA TERENGGANU: A Terengganu state executive council (Exco) member will be charged in court tomorrow over allegations of abuse of power.

The man, in his 60s, is scheduled to face charges at the Sessions Court here at 9 am, according to a source.

Terengganu Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) director Hazrul Shazreen Abd Yazid confirmed the matter when contacted.

The suspect, who is also a state assemblyman, was detained yesterday after giving his statement at the MACC office in Kemaman.

He is believed to have abused his position as an Exco member and chairman of a company board by instructing that his two children be employed at two state government subsidiaries.

The alleged offences were committed in 2018 and 2020.
