KUALA NERUS: The Terengganu Turtles sepak takraw team are targeting a return to the Sepak Takraw League (STL) Premier League next year after being relegated from the competition last season.
Terengganu Turtles Sepaktakraw Association president Tengku Zaihan Che Ku Abd Rahman said the team had strengthened its squad for the 2026 STL Division One competition in a bid to return to the Premier League next year.
He said the presence of two national players, namely Aidil Aiman Azwawi and Muhammad Zulkifli Abd Razak, who recently helped the Malaysian squad win gold in the men’s team regu event at the Asian Games, could help realise the ambition.
The Terengganu Turtles squad have also added several experienced new faces, namely Meor Mohamad Zulfikar Mat Amin (tekong), Mohamad Azim Azizul (right feeder) and Thai import player Saenkrai Dowrueang (right feeder) for the 2026 STL Division One competition, which begins on Oct 7.
“We have been preparing since early this year to ensure that Terengganu Turtles can return to the STL’s top tier, the Premier League, next season. Last year, we were relegated to Division One after finishing only 11th in the Premier League,” he said after the introduction ceremony for the Terengganu Turtles players for the 2026 STL Division One competition here last night.
Tengku Zaihan said the other players in the Terengganu Turtles squad, coached by head coach Natongsak Jittisak, are Muhamad Khairul Aman Mohd Rosdi (right feeder), Muhammad Afif Jazimin Zainal Abidin (left feeder) and Muhammad Amar Roslan (tekong).
