- The suspect, identified as 53-year-old Ndiaga Diagne, attacked Buford’s Backyard Beer Garden in Austin with a pistol and rifle before being shot dead by responding officers, Austin police said.
- Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis detailed that the gunman initially fired from his SUV before parking and continuing to shoot at people on Sixth Street, a popular nightlife area, around 2 a.m.
- The FBI said the attack was being investigated as a possible act of terrorism after "indicators" were found on the suspect and in his vehicle. The Associated Press reported that the gunman wore a sweatshirt stating "Property of Allah" and a shirt with an Iranian flag design.
- The attack at the bar in Austin took place hours after the US killed Iran’s supreme leader in joint strikes with Israel.
