Last week whilst on family vacation in Jakarta, and when our children toured the bustling shopping malls, my wife, Zarina & I had the opportunity to watch the 2025 BDMNTN-XL held at ‘GELORA BUNGKARNO SPORTS COMPLEX’ in Istora Senayan. It is not another badminton competition - but a reimagined entertainment product, blending the sport's technical beauty with innovative rules designed to captivate the badminton audience for non-stop excitement.

I learned from this innovative format of 2025 BDMNTX-XL Jakarta Shuttle Showdown on 02-05 October emphasized speed, intensity, and a fresh take on team-based competition. With its unique scoring system, time-based games, and thrilling tie-break mechanisms, the event is designed to maximize the excitement for both players & spectators. It is a new era for championship which introduced a vibrant team format of mixed-gender collaboration & tactical diversity. The blend of traditional singles matches and innovative 3x3 setup kept fans on their feet and brought a festival atmosphere to the venue. The event's great success signals a bright future for creative badminton showcases worldwide. It was indeed a real powerful, united and spectacular to watch. (badmintonworldtour.com)

According to my long-time friend, JP who sits in the championship organizing team, “One of the most thrilling elements is the Pressure Point rule, which activates when the score difference is three points or fewer at the end of the eight minutes. For example, if the score is 9-6 at the end of regulation, the leading side needs just one more point to clinch the game, while the trailing side must mount a four-point rally to snatch victory. This rule keeps fan on the edge of their seats, as no game is truly over until the last point is decided. Another exciting situation is the Shuttle Showdown, when a match ends 2-2.”

For 2025 BDMNTN-XL Jakarta, the Hurricanes emerged as the inaugural champions after a stunning 7-1 victory over the Rockets in Sunday's 05 Oct. I found the game represents a bold step forward for badminton, positioning it not only as a traditional sport but also as a spectator-friendly & high-energy.
