One of the most interesting events held at the Institute of Physics in London was on 21 October, 2024 that a renowned theoretical physicist Dr. Jean Boulton, launched the book “The Dao of Complexity”. An ontological quest: the nature of ‘reality’, of change that physics does not really paint of a machine-like universe or world. It is a processual view of complexity and the cosmology of Daoism that resonance with other perspectives and philosophies ‘knowing’ in a complex world.
In making sense and making waves in turbulent times to humanity, Dr. Jean Boulton posed the question “So, what do you do? - at the level of the person, the organisation, and the global?”
According to Ames and Hall (2003) Dao de Jing is “Eastern cosmology from 5th century BCE experientially derived almost identical view of that emerging from the science of complexity.” So What? “Apprehend systemically to being alert to what may be emerging is as important as understanding & being effective in the current circumstances.”
In simplicity, Yazdi summarised, “Dr. Boulton of Cranfield University writes with wit and wisdom to argue that the contemporary dilemmas we now face on our planet today demand new, processual ways of thinking. Her timely book make us understand climate change, rising populism, geo-political unrest - just a few challenging issues causing turbulence in today's world and in the future."
