It was the question of discussions when Johnny Ng, President of Soka Gakkai Malaysia (SGM), Yazdi J Bankwala, COO Sejahtera Leadership Initiative (SLI) and I had over coffee recently. Most of us assume that the best route to success is to push harder. However, we fully realised the reality that human beings are not designed to operate the same way computers do: at high speeds, continuously, for long periods of time. In fact, we're at best when we pulse rhythmically in blending our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual.
Johnny said, “One of the world's most durable myths is that achieving excellence in any given pursuit depends largely on inborn talent. A vast trove of recent evidence among SGM members suggested that the power is truly in our hands. Now, more than ever, we need a unified science of energy - what makes us work & what doesn't. We need a new model & road map to fuelling higher productivity and true competitive advantage. We've to unlock essential insights in order going to get more done, and feel better while we're doing it.”
In support Yazdi added, “We've to be more skill-fully organised in our tasks to achieve these needs, and the more energy we've available the better to achieve whatever we set out to accomplish. Most of us know preciously about what makes it possible to achieve & sustain excellence, especially as the volume and complexity of demand in our lives & work. A growing SLI research cases suggests that each of us has the potential to be excellent at almost anything if we get more done by systematically make the right moves & decisions
I totally agree with them that the principles and practices we share in this discussion are grounded in multidisciplinary work experiences. To achieve excellence, we must practice the skill we're seeking to build with strength & endurance (physical), high positive energy (emotionally), control of attention (mental), and a compelling sense of purpose (spiritual).
